Image
After seven years in the wilderness of Nigerian club football, Bayelsa United on Saturday announced its return to the Nigeria  Professional Football League NPFL following  a 2-0 victory over Cynosure Fc of Abakaliki at Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa. Timitimi Ineikade and Robert Mizo wrote their names in gold by scoring in each half in an encounter that was witnessed by the first lady of Bayelsa State Dr, Mrs Gloria Diri,  some  government officials and sports enthusiasts . Timitimi Ineikade gave the Prosperity Boys lead just before the halftime mark from midfielder Alex Oyowah's beautiful low cross to beat Cynosure Fc goaltender Akwari Franklin having failed to take lead few minutes into the game when Daniel Ekpo's shot went wide. Substitute Tonyemiete Owugha on 66 minute almost doubled the scoreline for the host from Robert Mizo cross but was unable to take the advantage of a collapsed Cynosure Fc defence line. Premier League Matchday Four: Previews and Prediction

Image
By Egeonu Ifeanyichukwu Last weekend threw up some shocking results as the young Premier League season continues to take shape. A lot of us, backed Liverpool to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday, only for Erik Ten Hag's men to grab their first win of the season. United were really excellent on the night. The big question now is can they back it up? Southampton vs Manchester United The Saints had to endure a lot of pressure in the first half against Leicester City last weekend and then went behind to a James Maddison free-kick but they responded superbly. They ended up winning the game, and deservedly so after Che Adams came off the bench to score twice, and this won't be an easy game for Manchester United. I don't think anyone saw United turning up against Liverpool, so I expect them to carry that momentum into this game and edge this one. My prediction: 1-2 Brentford vs Everton Everton might count themselves rather unfortunate, they had a lot of opportunitie...

Premier League: Matchday three preview

Image
Egeonu Ifeanyichukwu Could Manchester United be beaten once again this weekend? Tottenham vs Wolves Spurs were a bit disappointing in their performance against Chelsea last weekend. Although they showed good character to come back and get a point, but that result was more to do with questionable refereeing decisions and luck as far I was concerned. Wolves have signed Portugal forward Goncalo Guedes from Valencia as they try to increase their goal threat, but couldn't make much difference when he came on against Fulham last week. Bruno Lage's side's major issue last year was scoring goals despite having some talented players in their ranks. Tottenham on the other hand, don't have this problem as they possess a lot of firepower for Wolves to handle. My prediction: 2-0 Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Crystal Palace put up a very good performance in their draw against Liverpool on Monday, but when Klopp's men went a man down, I expected the Eagles to have take...

Premier League: Matchday Two Preview

Image
Egeonu Ifeanyichukwu The opening weekend of the Premier League season didn't quite go according to plan for the likes of Liverpool & Manchester United, as they both dropped points.  *How costly could this turn out to be come the end of the season?   Aston Villa vs Everton kicks off this weekend's fixtures. The Toffees should have new signings Conor Coady & Amadou Onana making their Premier League debuts, but they missed the services of a proper number nine by Chelsea & still look lightweight up front, even with Salomon Rondon back from suspension. I don't think anyone saw Villa losing to Bournemouth last weekend, and they really need a positive result here after such a horrible performance. Steven Gerrard was critical of his side, especially in the final third, so what is going to change this time? They really need a positive result at home against Everton to kick-start their season. And I think they'll just nick this one. My prediction: 2-1  Ars...
