Gallant Dreams FA Bows Out Of Aiteo Federation Cup

Francis Joseph Dreams Football Academy of Yenagoa on Saturday at the University of Nigeria Nsukka Enugu Campus (UNEC) bowed out gallantly of the 2022 Aiteo Federation Cup after  a 2-1 defeat to top flight side, Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna. Dreams Football Academy started on the game on a strong footing and should have been ahead as early as the 4th minutes when Ebi Peter got a loose ball from Tornadoes defender but shoot straight at Niger Tornadoes goalkeeper. With no meaningful action as dreams FA continued to match Tornadoes, in the 14 minutes Niger Tornadoes where awarded a penalty after a clumsy defending from Dreams FA but Gas Gbansele made a wonderful save to deny Tornadoes from taking the lead via penalty. Nigeria Wrestling Federation Unveils 2022 Commonwealth Games Team

  .....Igali Assures Nigerians Of Good Outing In Birmingham By Hananeel Jackson The Nigeria Wrestling Federation has unveiled a thirteen man contingent to the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games ongoing in Birmingham, England. The Team comprise six women,  four men wrestlers and three coaches: Victor Kodei, Happiness Kuro- Otin Head coach Women and Purity Akuh. The list, which is headlined by Olympic silver medalist Blessing Oborududu, also has Commonwealth Champion Odunayo Adekuoroye, her younger sister, Mercy Adekuoroye,  Mercy Genesis, Kolawole Esther, Hannah Reuben, Ebikenmo Welson, Agiomor Ekerekeme and Amas Daniel, in their respective weight classes. NVBF invites 21 players to camp ahead of African U19 Nations Cup

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has invited 21 players to the camp of the U19 Boys’ National Team ahead of next month’s African U19 Boys Nations Championships in Morocco. The 2022 African U19 Boys Nations Championships is scheduled for 1st to 12th September in El Jadida/Casablanca. According to a statement from the NVBF, the head coach of Sunshine Spikers, Adeniyi Adekalu has been drafted to handle the U19 Boys team and will be assisted by Coach of Kada Emeralds, Vincent Unogwu. Trinidad and Tobago To Host Commonwealth Youth Games in 2023

Trinidad and Tobago have been confirmed as the official host for next year's re-scheduled Commonwealth Youth Games at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly following the postponement of the seventh edition in 2021. Having been initially granted the hosting rights in 2019, it was revealed in 2020 that Trinidad and Tobago would be given the first option to host any rearranged Commonwealth Youth Games, as a result of the health crisis that rocked the world that year. The Bahamas held the most recent Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017, with 2023 set to mark its seventh edition and it will feature athletes from the age of 14 - 17.

The Nigeria Women Football League has expressed shock on the letter written by the Club Owners Association, dated July 22, to inform the Secretariat of the Nigeria Women Football League on their purported elective meeting on July 21. Ese Brume Bags World Athletics Championship Silver In Long Jump

Ese Brume claimed the silver medal in women’s long jump at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade on Sunday. She leapt 6.85 meters to become the third Nigerian athlete to win medals in all three global athletics championships including the Olympics. Ivana Valueta, a homegirl, claimed the gold medal with a 7:08m jump, while Lorraine Ugen of Great Britain clinched bronze. Brume had won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. She also claimed bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. The Delta-born long jumper has now joined Glory Alozie and the late Sunday Bada as athletes who have won medals at world athletics indoor events and the Olympics. Tobi Amusan became the first Nigerian athlete to win a World Athletics Championship gold as she stormed to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles in Oregon on Sunday. Amusan, who had obliterated the world record in an astonishing semi-final where she clocked 12.12sec, powered over the line at Hayward Field in 12.06sec. Jamaica’s Britany Anderson took silver in 12.23sec, while Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico claimed bronze in 12.23. Amusan had produced a jaw-dropping world record in the semi-finals, smashing the previous best mark of 12.20secs held by Keni Harrison of the United States since 2016. Francis Joseph Samuel Boboye of Bayelsa state has won gold with Team Nigeria at the ongoing International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) U-19 African Championship in Tunisia. Boboye alongside Mati Taiwo and Muiz Adegoke defeated Egypt 3-1 in the final on Saturday evening to clinch gold at the  ITTF U-19 Championship in Tunisia. Boboye who hails from Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is the captain of Table Tennis Association, Bayelsa State.  He started playing Table Tennis in 2016.  Boboye has been a cadet champion of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, NTTF. In May 2021, he was in Tunisia for the World Table Tennis Youth Star Contender. The ongoing ITTF U-19 African Junior Championship  (boys and girls) which ends on July 27 serves as a warm-up competition for the World Championship scheduled to take place also in Tunisia next December.It also allows players from Africa to secure tickets to represent the continent.

It was jubilation galore in the camp of Team Nigeria competing at World Championships in Oregon, United States. Since the start of the event, it has been ups and downs for Nigerian athletes but Tobi Amusan on Saturday evening lived up to expectations in the women's 100 meters hurdles heat. The African champion was the star of the race, apart from finishing in first position, Amusan also broke her African record as she ran 12.40s.  Her previous record as the African fastest was 12.41s and the athlete was extremely happy as she was celebrated after the race. Commonwealth Games: Team Nigeria Boxers Land In Birmingham

Ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Team Nigeria Boxing contingent have arrived in Birmingham, England venue of the event, BSNsports.com.ng reports. The qualified nine boxers that will represent the country and their trainers departed the shores of the country on Friday evening after undergoing intensive training. They arrived at the Heathrow Airport on Saturday evening and they were moved quickly to Birmingham. All eyes will be on the team captain Afeez Osoba who won a silver medal at the 2019 All African Games. Nigeria's junior team have won gold in the U-19 boys' team in Tunisia after Mati Taiwo, Muiz Adegoke & Samuel Boboye defeated Egypt 3-1 in the final. The trio halted Egypt from completing a quadruple of gold in the team event, having won the U-15 boys & girls & the U-19 girls. MOTSEPE REVEALS CASH PRIZES FOR CAF WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

This year’s Women’s CAF Champions League champion will receive $400,000, while the runner-up will receive $200,000, according to a Friday announcement made in Rabat by CAF President Patrice Motsepe. Bayelsa Queens, champions of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), will participate in the zonal competition in Cote d’Ivoire in September. The Moroccan main event’s qualification rounds are known as the zonal tournament. Nigeria’s representative team, Bayelsa Queens, will participate in the WAFU B competition in Abidjan. The Women’s CAF Champions League (WAFU B) champion will join with clubs from other nations. Former world number one Venus Williams will make her singles comeback after being awarded a wildcard for next month's WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. Williams has not played in a singles tournament for nearly a year but she will join her sister Serena in the main draw for the National Bank Open. Her most recent return to court was alongside Britain's Jamie Murray, reaching the second round in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. The tournament begins on 6 August. The 42-year-old last played a singles match at the Chicago Women's Open in August 2021, where she was beaten in the first round by Hsieh Su-Wei. Henrik Stenson joins LIV Golf Series after being removed as Europe's Ryder Cup captain

Henrik Stenson has joined the LIV Golf series following his removal as Europe's Ryder Cup captain. The Swede, 46, was sacked by Ryder Cup Europe on Wednesday morning and later put out a statement confirming he was joining the controversial Saudi-backed breakaway event. He said he disagreed with the decision to remove him as captain but that "for now it is a decision I accept". Stenson, winner of the Open in 2016, was appointed as captain in March. "Unfortunately my decision to play in LIV events has triggered Ryder Cup Europe to communicate that it is not possible for me to continue in my role as Ryder Cup captain," said Stenson. "This is despite me making specific arrangements with LIV Golf, who have been supportive of my role as captain, to ensure I could fulfil the obligations of the captaincy."
