Domo Okara a round peg in round hole!

Why Bayelsa Queens picked Domo Okara to be their new Technical Adviser?

By Yakubu Uzoma Muhammad

Bayelsa Queens started looking towards it's next  Technical Adviser for next season and the upcoming CAF Champions League 'ZONE B' competition , immediately after Moses Aduku tendered his resignation letter to the Chairman Pastor Robin Apreala.

Coach Domo Okara was called up immediately after the team's morning training session on Saturday 16th July, 2022 by the club's Chairman to take charge of the helm of affairs few minutes after Moses Aduku had resigned.

Coaches all over the country had applied for the soon to be vacant job immediately they got the hint that Moses Aduku had gotten the call from Edo State to take  over the vacant Edo Queens Job. The Bayelsa Queens Board members unanimously approved of Domo's appointment because of his abilities and track record with the team.

In less than 48 hours the club through its media team released a statement that Coach Domo Okara will take charge of the club's affairs after Coach Aduku's resignation.

Why Domo Okara is the right man to take Bayelsa Queens forward.
HE HAS THE REQUIRED COACHING LICENSE

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had announced that the  mandatory Coaching license requirements for all coaches who will be handling clubs in CAF Inter-club Competitions

"In terms of the coaching license requirement for the CAF Interclub competitions 2021/2022 season, the following coach requirements are set as mandatory:

-For CAF Champions League: CAF “A” or valid sister confederation “PRO” coaching license is mandatory for the Head Coach; CAF B coaching license is mandatory for the Assistant Coach.

Recall that Bayelsa Queens qualified for the Women's CAF Champions League 'ZONE B' competition at Ivory Coast in September, 2022 courtesy of their Super Six win in Benin City, and in view of the aforementioned license requirements for the CAF  Inter-club competition, the former coach wouldn't have been eligible to mount the dog out for the competition because he only has "CAF "C" Coaching License. While his former assistant Coach Domo Okara is qualified with his "Basic Certificate in Coaching, at the Football Coaching Institute, Houston Texas. A license that is equivalent to a UEFA "C" Pro Coaching License.

RECORD WITH THE TEAM

Domo a well-known tactician had temporarily guided the club from 6th position to 1st in the absence of Moses Aduku while he was away on International Assignment in the second half of last season. The club was at the risk of not making it to the top three of the Group B Table after few games last season but the club's fortune changed immediately Domo Okara took over as the Acting Technical Adviser of the team after a 1-0 loss to FC Robo in Lagos.

HE IS YET TO BE BEATEN AS A COACH IN-CHARGE OF ANY GAME FOR BAYELSA QUEENS.

It is understood that the 45-year old is yet to lose a game with Bayelsa Queens as an interim coach. in fact the Nembe Born tactician won all but one game against Delta Queens in Asaba. A game that team felt that they should have won after taking the lead twice.

Bayelsa Queens went on to finish first in the log with a game to spare after an impressive run.

Moses Aduku took over the team after returning from International duties and won the penultimate game against Abia Angels but went on to lose the last game of the regular season 1-0 away to Rivers Angels at the University of Port Harcourt Stadium.

HE IS A WINNER WITH BAYELSA QUEENS!

In 2021 in the absence of Moses Aduku, Coach Domo Okara successfully guided Bayelsa Queens to win the Betsy Obaseki Tournament in Benin City. Coupled with his record of not losing a single game with the team, it shows that he is a coach that hates losing. A trait he has been able to pass on to his players.

 HIS EXPERIENCE IN MANAGEMENT!

He started his coaching career in 2012 as the Chief Coach of Bayelsa Queens' Feeder Team after which he was promoted to Chief Coach of the Senior team in 2015, a position he held till 2017. He later served as a consultant for the club before he was appointed Chief Coach of Bayelsa United in 2018.

Domo Okara was the Assistant Coach when Bayelsa Queens won the Aiteo Cup at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in August 2021 before he qualified the team to last season's Super Six with a game to spare.

6. RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PLAYERS.
The reactions of the Bayelsa Queens players when they learnt of his appointment was a testament of approval from a vast majority of the players. With the upcoming CAF Champions League 'ZONE B' competition in Ivory Coast around the corner, the players needed someone they are already used to working with.

Meanwhile, the timing of the appointment has been key for the Bayelsa Queens Board members, with sources revealing that they're much more confident with him as the Technical Adviser going into the upcoming season and CAF Champions League 'ZONE B' competition in September.

Only time will tell if he is capable of continuing with the club's latest success but the belief is that there is no better man for the job right now.
