Umuawa Boycotts Ohuhu Welfare Union Election, Threatens Lawsuit Over Reinstated Candidate
The people of Umuawa (Alaocha na Alaike) have announced a total boycott of the purported Ohuhu Welfare Union (OWU) election scheduled for Saturday, 16th May, 2026, warning that they will challenge in court any attempt to reinstate a candidate they described as “duly disqualified.” This was part of the resolutions reached during a meeting of Umuawa Zone held on Thursday, 14th May, 2026, where leaders and stakeholders from the six villages of Umuawa condemned what they termed violations of the Ohuhu Welfare Union Constitution ahead of the election. In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the community also called for the postponement of the election for at least three weeks to mourn the late Chairman of the OWU Caretaker Committee, Dr. Emeka Okengwu, who died on 9th May, 2026 while serving the clan.
