‎Federal High Court Strikes Out Case Against Bayelsa State Football Association

‎ ‎The Federal High Court sitting in yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital has struck out the case filed against the Bayelsa State Football Association, BSFA after its elective congress in 2023. ‎ ‎The case which was presided by Hon. Justice N. Ayo-Emmanuel was struck out because the case was not properly filed by the applicants, represented by Chief Baribote Victor Rumson. ‎ ‎The judge also stated that the court lacks the jurisdiction to hear the matter.  ‎ ‎The decision by the Federal High Court has laid to rest the series of litigation with FA now fully concentrated on football activities in the State.  ‎

Bayelsa State delivered a superlative performance in the men’s freestyle event at the ongoing 4th Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa on Sunday, March 29. The host team secured a total of four medals consisting of three gold at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex. In the men’s 70kg category, Erofagha Dideikenei clinched Bayelsa State’s first gold medal after defeating Richard Ebigha of Rivers State in the final. Andrew Ebikeme of Dynamite Club and Ebikedunene T of Delta State both settled for bronze. In the 82kg category, Solomon Ulabo earned Bayelsa State its second gold medal with a victory over Agbonifo Ehichiel of Edo State in the final. Bayelsa Athletics Association holds High Jump, Hurdles coaching clinics

The Bayelsa State Athletics Association will today begin a one-week coaching clinics for High Jump and hurdle races. The National Head Coach, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Rtd. DSP Solomon Aliyu, a former Nigerian 110metres hurdler and High Jump national coach, Mr. Kola Adebayo, will be in Yenagoa to expose athletes and coaches to new techniques in the two track and field events. The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Athletics Association, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, said those interested in coaching of High Jump and hurdle races are encouraged to come to the Samson Siasia sports complex for the session in the morning and afternoon. Dr. Oredipe, said the association was committed to building capacity of the coaches and encourage more athletes to take to hurdle races. ‎The Central Organizing Committee of Nigeria's biggest grassroots football showpiece, Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup, has disqualified two teams, Larama FC and Merriment FC, from participating in this year's edition of the tournament.  ‎ ‎The announcement of their disqualification is contained in a statement signed by Tournament Director, Mr. Ebi Avi.  ‎ ‎According to him, the disqualification became imperative following both teams' failure to return their completed registration forms and players' licences as at the close of registration and therefore stand disqualified for the tournament.  ‎ ‎The statement, which noted that the disqualified teams, both from Ekeremor Local Government Area, by their failure to return their registration forms and players' licences, violated the competition's rules. The Technical Director of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Austine Eguavoen confirmed this while speaking at the closing ceremony of a five-day NFF-D Licence Coaching Course for grassroots coaches held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The 2026 edition of the Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament, also called the Prosperity Cup, has taken on an interesting flavour with the registration of a team, Liberty FC, from the Correctional Centre in the State. ‎ ‎The Director General of the tournament, Mr Ono Akpe disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, the nation's capital. ‎ ‎He noted that a special playing field has been designated for Liberty FC to execute their matches in the tournament, stating that the inclusion of the Correctional teams represents inclusivity among institutions. ‎ ‎According to him, beyond the huge prize money in the tournament, the competition has helped to curb crime and other social vices across the state while providing a platform for talents in Bayelsa to showcase their potential. ‎ ‎The DG explained that with the consistency in the organising the tournament, youth restiveness has reduced drastically because the youths are actively engaged in football activities ...

… to hold 3-day coaching clinics The Bayelsa State Athletics Association has concluded plans to hold a one-day U-15/Secondary Schools Athletics Meet at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Ovom, Yenagoa on Monday, 23rd March, 2026 from 8am. The meet, expected to feature athletes in track and field will focus more on the field events including Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Javelin, and Discus where the state is perceived to be lagging behind in national competitions. At the event, the young athletes will also be introduced to both the short and quarter hurdles- 110mH for men, 100mH for women and then the 400 metres hurdles.
