Kingdom Stars Football Academy Crowned Champions of Easter Kids Cup

Kingdom Stars Football Academy emerged champions of the One-Day Easter Kids Cup after a thrilling 3–2 penalty shootout victory over Stardom Life Football Academy, following a 2–2 draw in regulation time.

The exciting grassroots tournament, which kicked off at 8:00 a.m., was held at Hamilton Sports Garden in Ekeki, Yenagoa. The competition brought together talented young footballers between the ages of 5 and 10 from various academies across Bayelsa State.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the coordinator of the programme, Coach Ada Gwegwe, expressed his satisfaction with the event and its impact on youth development.

“I am happy—this is what I have been doing for years, so it’s nothing new to me. I’m especially pleased with the turnout and the encouragement from parents.
This is the only way we can get it right in our football. For a very long time, we have not produced national team players.
I want to use this opportunity to call on the state government and multinational companies to invest in sports development.”

Also speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour, Perekeme Fidelis Perekeme, commended the young players for their impressive display, noting the abundance of talent among them.

“I have seen the U-10 children play, and I was very impressed with the level of skill they displayed. I never knew we have such outstanding sports academies with this level of talent.
I want to thank the organisers of the programme. We have to catch them young; if we do that, many of the wrongs we see in society today will be averted.”

Participating teams included host Yenagoa City Football Academy, Dominion City FA, Kingdom Stars FA, Stardom Life FA, and Okiki Musampa Football Academy, all showcasing impressive skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

The event was supported by Hamilton Garden, Senator Cleopas Moses, Hon. Timi Agala-Omubo, Monimichelle Sports, and Helky’s Kitchen Fab,
Mr Igbe Ayibamotimi Ezekiel
whose contributions helped ensure the tournament’s success.

The One-Day Easter Kids Cup once again highlighted the importance of grassroots football development, providing a valuable platform for young talents to express themselves and gain competitive experience.
