The Local Organising Committee of Nigeria's largest grassroot football tournament, the Prosperity Cup, is set to receive another set of international scouts, in Yenagoa. The scouts from the FDC/ VISTA GELENDZHIK SCOUTING Programme/TOURNAMENT'S will be led by Nigeria's legend and two time African footballer of the year Kanu Nwankwo and renowned International FIFA agent Paul Ojo Omamomo They are billed to hit the Yenagoa on  Friday 1st of July 2022 for a three-day scouting trials  strictly for players under the age of 17. This trials is the second in the series of international trials is in fulfilment of the pledge of His Excellency Governor Douye Diri to help project the talents abound in Bayelsa to the international scene, in an attempt to enhance their livelihood and help them make a career in football. Egyptian Premier League side Al Ahly announced the appointment of Portuguese manager Ricardo Soares as their new head coach in replacement of Pitso Mosimane. The wait is now over. The Red Devils have a new coach after days in trouble since South African gaffer Mosimane decided to leave his job. Al Ahly announced the news on Thursday morning on their social media accounts. “He is here. Welcome Ricardo Soares” , the Cairo-based outfit wrote. According to several  local reports , Ricardo Soares will pen down a two-year contract with Al Ahly. The 47-year old parted ways with Gil Vicente on Tuesday, has arrived in Egypt earlier on Wednesday morning. In addition, it is believed that Ricardo Soares will earn a €1.5m salary per season while he decided himself to pay Gil Vicente a €250 000 fee for them to release him.

---- Bayelsa state Becomes The First State To Produce Two National Champions In The Same Season Bishop Dimieari Grammar School have won the male Nestle Milo Secondary School National Basketball Championship for the first time after  a 36-33 point win over Government Secondary School F.C.T, Abuja to win their first National championship. Earlier in the day, St Jude's Girls Secondary School Amarata also emerged champions in the female category at the ongoing  National Basketball Championship at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Surulere Lagos. St Jude's Girls won their  7th record after a 38-14 points win over Spur College, Benue on Thursday  With the victory for both male and female teams, Bayelsa state has now become the first to win the championship male and female in a single season. Moses Simon, Amoo Nominated For CAF Awards

Francis Joseph Nigeria's Moses Simon and Akinkunmi Amoo has been nominated for the 2022 Confederation of African Football (CAF) best player of the year awards. Nantes Moses Simon is nominated for the best player of the year while Copenhagen's Akinkunmi Amoo is nominated for the best young player of the year. Senegal top the list with five nominations, followed by Cameroun and Egypt with three and two nominations respectively. Thirty players have been listed for the preliminary round and it will be reduced in later date to be announced by CAF. The award has not been held in the past three years.

CAF May Postpone 2023 Afcon

Report has it that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is considering postponing the 2023 Afcon due to Torrential rain fall in Ivory Coast. CAF Secretary General, Veron Mosenga in an interview with Le Monde said they are considering it and it's one of the possibilities. “We are considering it; it is one of the possibilities,” “We asked Ivorian meteorologists to report to us on rainfall history in Côte d’Ivoire in June and July, but also to share their projections with us.” With a year before kick-off, Major cities in Ivory Coast are experiencing heavy rains with floods, CAF fears having the competition in the middle of the rainy season may not necessarily be a good idea as most of the cities maybe flooded during the showpiece next year. The next edition of AFCON is scheduled for June 23 to July 23, 2023, in Ivory Coast. CAF will deliberate on it in the 44th Ordinary General Assembly of CAF scheduled for August 10 in Arusha, Tanzania.

It was a one sided affair on the third day of the Round of 16 clash at the ongoing Nigeria's largest grassroot football tournament, the Prosperity Cup, as Anyama-Ogbia of Ogbia LGA scored six unreplied goals against Agoro FC of Sagbama. Vincent Azibapu stole the show as he scored four of the six goals. The prolific striker first announced his presence as early as the 5th minute when he received a sublime pass and tried to lob the ball over the approaching goalkeeper, but it was saved. However, his second attempt started the harvest of goals, as he made no mistake finding the back of the net from 7 yards few minutes later, to give his team the lead. Emma Raducanu says she will continue to "embrace every single moment" as she remained upbeat after a straight-set exit at Wimbledon that left Centre Court deflated. The 19-year-old Briton was outpowered by France's Caroline Garcia in a 6-3 6-3 defeat in the second round. "For me, everything is learning," said Raducanu, who was seeded 10th. Raducanu has not won successive matches at a Grand Slam since her remarkable triumph at last year's US Open. She conveyed positivity in her post-match news conference, adding: "Caroline is a great player. I struggled to find a way through her.   Francis Joseph Former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Peter Singabele has said that lack of  proper administrative mechanism is the reason why our football has not grown to the level it supposed to be. Speaking on the heels of the controversies about the forthcoming Nigeria Football Federation executive committee elections expected to hold in September,  Singabele, currently, a CAF medical committee member said that Nigeria and indeed Nigerians love football, that football is just like our food but that the game is not speedily growing the way Nigerians expect because of several administrative impediments.
