Adnan Aziz: From Djougou to Europe, and a Dream of Wearing Benin’s Colours

Not every football journey begins in a famous academy or under the lights of a major stadium.

Some begin on modest pitches, in towns far from the attention of scouts and the international spotlight. They are built through patience, sacrifice, discipline and the determination to keep moving forward when the road becomes difficult.

For Adnan Aziz, that journey began in Djougou, northern Benin.

Born on January 1, 2002, Aziz discovered football at a young age and gradually turned his passion into a serious ambition. His pursuit of a professional career has taken him beyond Benin and into several European football environments, including Italy, the Czech Republic and France, before continuing once again in Italy.

At 24, Aziz believes that the most important chapters of his career may still be ahead.

The Beginning in Djougou

Before Europe, there was Djougou.

It was there that Aziz developed his love for football and began dreaming about turning the game into his profession.

His early experiences with Tchemabi FC and Soleil FC in Benin provided an important foundation for his development.

Those years taught him some of the basic lessons that would later become essential to his career: discipline, commitment, patience and the willingness to work for an opportunity.

Eventually, the decision came to leave home and pursue the dream abroad.

That step was about much more than changing clubs.

It meant leaving familiar surroundings, adapting to new cultures and accepting the uncertainty that comes with trying to establish yourself in another country.

Europe as a Football Education

Italy became one of the first chapters of Aziz's European journey, where he gained experience with Pro Cittiglio.

He later moved to the Czech Republic, joining FK Králův Dvůr, before continuing his development in France with Angers MFC and Olympique Saumur.

Each country presented a different footballing environment.

Different tactical approaches.

Different training methods.

Different expectations.

Different cultures.

For a young player trying to build a career abroad, adapting to those changes can be as important as what happens on match day.

Aziz learned to listen, observe, adapt and compete.

Every coach brought a different perspective. Every team demanded something new. Every move required him to step outside his comfort zone.

Rather than seeing those challenges as setbacks, he chose to treat them as part of his education.

Standing around 1.86 metres tall, Aziz plays as a striker and offers a strong physical presence in the attacking area.

His size allows him to compete in physical battles and operate effectively around the penalty area. But he understands that modern football requires much more than physical strength.

That is why he continues to work on the technical, tactical and mental aspects of his game.

Aziz continued his career with ASD Licata Calcio before moving to ASD Juvenilia Roseto.

Returning to Italian football gave him another opportunity to compete, develop and demonstrate his qualities as an attacking player.

The objective remains straightforward: work consistently, earn the trust of the coaching staff and take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.

At this stage of his career, Aziz understands that ambition alone is not enough.

Ambition must eventually become performance.

The Dream Beyond Club Football

While his European experience has become an important part of his development, Aziz has never forgotten where his story began.

Benin remains at the heart of his ambitions.

He has already experienced the national-team environment at youth level, representing Benin at U20 and U23 level.

Those experiences allowed him to wear the national colours and strengthened a dream that remains one of his biggest objectives: earning the opportunity to represent the senior Benin national team, the Guépards.

For a player from Djougou, that ambition carries a special meaning.

It is not simply about adding an international appearance to a career.

It is about representing his country.

Representing the people who supported him.

Aziz wants to have a strong and consistent season, continue developing as a footballer and put himself in the best possible position to reach the next level.

A major objective is to use his performances at club level to move closer to the senior national team.

He dreams of competing in major African competitions organised by CAF and, eventually, experiencing the biggest stage in international football: the FIFA World Cup.

But he knows that such ambitions cannot be achieved overnight.

There are no shortcuts.

The process begins with performances.

Then consistency.

Then improvement.

Then greater responsibility.

And when the opportunity comes, being ready to take it.

At 24, Aziz knows that his career is still being written.

His experiences across different countries have taught him that opportunities cannot always be predicted. Sometimes they arrive unexpectedly. Sometimes they require months or even years of preparation.
