Bayelsa Athletics Chairman Assures Athletes of Continuous Support
The Chairman, Bayelsa State Athletics Association, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe has charged the track and field athletes in the state on improved performance ahead of the new season, assuring that they will continue to get the needed support to excel.
In his maiden address to the athletes during their training session on Friday at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Ovom, Dr. Oredipe, noted that though the challenges were enormous, his appointment should signal a new beginning and a rebirth of athletics in the state.
According to him, the synergy between the coaches, the secretary and athletes will be strengthened to have more presence at the national level.
On enhancing their performance, Dr. Oredipe who is also the Auditor of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, said the resurfacing of the tartan track at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex will soon commence and appreciated Governor Douye Diri for his directive to have a brand new tartan track.
"You saw the commissioner for sports earlier when he came to inspect the ongoing football pitch resurfacing, I can confidently announce to you that this tartan track will be resurfaced very, very soon. Our Governor is sports loving and he is interested in our sports too.
So, we are waiting for a brand new tartarn track", he said.
The Bayelsa Athletics Chairman said more investment will be made in the new year and charged them to be more dedicated.
He appreciated the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr Daniel Igali and Director of Sports in the state Sports Council, Mr. Andrew Aye for this opportunity to serve and their continued support to the Association and athletics in general.
