Prosperity Cup 2025: Ezuogha Soccer Academy, Afini Ladies Set Stage for An All Yenagoa Female Final
Ezougha Soccer Academy and Afini Ladies both of Yenagoa have both qualified for the final of the women's version of Nigeria's biggest grassroots football spectacle, the Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup.
In their first semi final match decided at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa on Wednesday, Ezougha Soccer Academy fought off their less fancied Bayelsa Stars Queens by a lone goal to qualify for the final having had a smooth ride in the competition.
On the other hand, Afini Ladies put up a dominant display against Bayelsa State College of Nursing Sciences, BYSCON QUEENS FC by three unreplied goals. Last season's top scorer, Blessing Anderson drew the first blood for Afini Ladies on 17 minutes from a well-placed effort.
Anibrafa Afuluku doubled the lead on 28 minutes from a beautiful finish to send the coach Anthony girls into wild celebration, having controlled the first 30 minutes of the game. Goodness Ejike on 85 minutes compounded the woes of BYSCON Queens FC to send Afini Ladies to the final.
Bayelsa Stars will now battle BYSCON Queens FC in the losers final on Friday at the Samson Siasia Stadium.
In the meantime, the chairman of the women's tournament, Mr. Ebi Avi says the future is bright with women's football in Bayelsa, stating that the quality of football displayed by the girls is a testament of hope for women's football in Nigeria.
Mr. Avi expressed confidence in the quality of talents in the tournament, maintaining that the talents would soon become superstars that would represent the nation.
A Victorious Afini Ladies coach Anthony attributed the success of his team to hard-work, saying that they are optimistic of lifting the trophy.
Despite the defeat, BYSCON QUEENS coach, who believes that his team gave their best, said that attention has now shifted to the third place match on Friday, adding that the organizers of the tournament have done a tremendous job to improve women's football in Bayelsa State.
