Winners emerge at 4th edition of SAMKAY athletics meet

Winners have emerged in the 4th edition of the SAMKAY athletics club Bayelsa secondary schools athletics competition held at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia sports complex in Yenagoa.
The competition is in collaboration with the State Ministry of Education and the State Athletics Association.
Over 300 athletes from 30 schools participated in 100metres, 400metres, 800metres and Long Jump events.
13-year old Ebimoboere Christopher of St. Agnes Catholic School, Yenagoa was the revelation of the competition winning the 100 metres girls in 12:95 seconds followed by Gabriel Paebi of St. Jude's Girls Secondary School, Amarata in 13:15 seconds while Jacob Martha also of St. Jude's Girls Secondary School took third position in 13:27 seconds.
For the 100m Boys, the winners are, Dio Roland of Model Secondary School, Sagbama in 11:44 seconds clinching the first position, Second position was won by Kabowei Goodluck from Government Science and Technical College, Okaka in 11:56 seconds while the Third position was won by Sokari Williams of Government Science Technical College, Swali in 11:77 seconds.
In the 400m girls, Francis Unique of St. Jude's Girls Amarata won in 1:05:44secs, followed by Timilaemi Eunice of Government Secondary School, Aleibiri in 1:05:81secs, while third position was won by Okuroemi Ebindu Divine of Belary Schools in 1:06:47 minutes.
For the 400m Boys, the first position was won by Kabowei Goodluck of Government Science and Technical College, Okaka in 52:91 seconds followed by Deme Yenesinivie of Government Secondary School, Ovom in 53:68 seconds while the third position was won by Noah God'spower of Community Secondary School, Aleibiri in 55:63 seconds.
For the 800m girls, first position was clinched by Igbete Innocent Victory of Government Secondary School, Ovom in 2:33:84 minutes followed by Miezaike Blessing of Community Secondary School, Ekeremor in 2:41:56 minutes while the third position was won by Ndiwari Pere-ere of Government Secondary School, Odi in 2:42:89
For the 800m Boys, Noah God'spower of Community Secondary School, Aleibiri came first in 2:11:09 minutes followed by Goodness Goodluck of community Secondary School, Elebele in 2:13:06 minutes while Deme Yenesinivie of Community Secondary School, Ovom came third in 2:15:01 minutes.
Winners for the long jump girls finals are, Gabriel Paebi of St. Jude's Girls Secondary School, Amarata who came first with 4:30m followed by Ogbare Blessing of Gbaranowei Grammar School, Okolobiri with 4.05m while Furo Iruosomoye of Belary Schools came third with 4.02m.
Winners for the long Jump Boys are Dio Roland of Model Secondary School, Sagbama with 5.90m followed by Eric Seiyefa of Bishop Dimieri Grammar School, Ovom with 5.50m while Peredengikumo Shadrach of Belary Schools came third with 5:40m.
In a speech, the Commissioner for Sports Development in Bayelsa State, Dr. Daniel Igali, who commended the organisers of the event charged other sporting associations to organise youth events like this to discover talents for the state.
For the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, his ministry would continue to collaborate with relevant organisations to promote school sports.
The Founder of Samkay Athletics Club who doubles as Vice-Chairman of Bayelsa State Athletics Association, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe, said the 4th edition had thrown up new talents and he is very confident that the young athletes from the state would dominate the track and fields in the country soon.
Cash prizes were presented to all winners.
