HOME SWEET RELIEF: Bayelsa United Bounces Back with 1-0 Victory over Heartland

Bayelsa United rediscovered their winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Heartland FC at the Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa in Matchday Eight of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), after defeat mid-week away at Bendel Insurance and reigniting their NPFL status hopes.
In a tense and highly congested match saw Bayelsa United miss early chances from debutant, Foluwa Akpokabowei while Heartland Goalkeeper also made a good save in the early minute's to deny Obed Junior from giving the prosperity boys the lead.
A cagey first saw heartland FC also missed some opportunities as the Goalkeeper of Bayelsa United Godgift Elkanah was called into action.
At the start of the second half, the host Bayelsa United came out in search of the go ahead goal as the defense of the Naze Millionaires stood resolute.
The prosperity boys push for the lead eventually paid off in the 55th minutes when substitute, Rabiu Abdullahi scored a close range tap-in courtesy of an assist from Yahaya Ibrahim to give Bayelsa United the lead, sending the home fans into scenes of celebration.
With a goal behind heartland FC pushed out in search of an equalizer and in the 88th minutes the Naze Millionaires thought they had equalized but a stunning acrobatics save from Elkanah Godgift for Bayelsa United off a corner kick header prevented the visitors from leveling the scores.
Bayelsa United held on to claim the much needed 3 points as they bid to push up the table.
In a post match interview technical adviser of Bayelsa United, Ladan Bosso hailed the spirit of the his team but was concerned over his team's continuous wastefulness in front of goal despite creating opportunities.
Heartland FC coach, Emmanuel Amuneke attributed the defeat to the team's lack of concentration in the second half, stating that the team gave good account of themselves.
With the victory Bayelsa United are currently 15th on the log with 9 points while Heartland are placed 17th with 6 points.
Bayelsa United will next take on Lobi Stars of Markurdi while Heartland FC will trade tackle with Remo Stars.
