3rd Edition Of Gov' Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics, Grapple Masters Set To Battle For Supremacy.

The stage is set for the ultimate clash of strength, skill, and strategy as the 3rd Edition Of Gov' Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics is set to take center stage in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State which will bring together the nation's top wrestlers to battle for supremacy.

At a media briefing in the VIP stand of the Samson Siasia Stadium ahead of the National Wrestling classics, the commissioner for sports, Hon. Daniel Igali who double as the President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation said that the wrestling competition will start from the 3rd to 10th of November with the main event starting from the 5th - 9th November 2024.

"According to the commissioner, the federation has received confirmation of interest from more than 20 states, comprising military and paramilitary organizations, as well as over 15 clubs, for participation in this year's championship."

Honourable Igali added that this year's edition of the Gov Douye Diri Wrestling Classics will showcase freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in ten weight classes each, supplemented by five junior and cadet classes for both styles, totaling 45 weight classes."

The 3rd Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics, scheduled to hold in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, will witness a convergence of over 750 athletes and coaches from the 36 states of the federation, all vying for glory.

Hon. Igali noted that Bayelsa is the home of wrestling and has produced over eighty-two gold medals in the continent making it the most successful state in terms of wrestling in the last four years. He used the opportunity to thank Governor Douye Diri for his support of sport development in the state.

Also speaking at the press conference, Sir Braveman Wodi, Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Council said the  championship serves as a vital platform for athletes to prepare for the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State while also serving as a ground for nurturing talents, Additionally the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association, Amai-ebi Ebikpolade Stow who is partnering the organizers expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, highlighting the initiative's potential to constructively engage youths through sports."
