The Yenagoa Coordinator of Bayelsa State Volunteer Security, Honourable Glad Bonsome has thanked the lawmaker representing Yenagoa, Kolukuma/Opukuma Federal Constituency Hon. Oboku .A. Oforji at the National Assembly for sponsoring Bill which Seek to allow independent marketers lift Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as fuel from the newly established Dangote Refinery so as to make the product available and ease the scarcity of PMS in the country.

Hon. Glad Bonsome in a statement on Friday 27th September 2024 noted that the sponsoring of the bill was timely as the country is currently battling with fuel scarcity which has seen the price of PMS gone up.

The Yenagoa Coordinator of the Bayelsa state Volunteer Security added that with the house of representative in it's plenary on Friday urging the federal government and the Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation Limited (NNPCL) to allow independent marketers commence lifting of the premium motor spirit (PMS) sponsored by honourable Oforji, it will make the product to be available for the public and also help reduce scarcity of the product thereby helping in the reduction of the price of PMS across the country which will ease the cost of living.

Honourable Glad Bonsome in his statement further described Oboku .A. Oforji as a Visionary Leader who always have the interest of his people at heart, calling for more support for the lawmaker as he has shown that he is capable to represent the good people of Yenagoa, Kolukuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency.

He added that Honourable Oforji is a leader with good intentions and pure heart while praying for God to give him more strength and wisdom to represent his Constituency at the national assembly.

Hon. Oboku .A. Oforji at plenary on Friday in a motion tagged Motion of Public Importance in his debate noted that even though the Dangote refinery began operations on September 15 2024, only major marketers have been given access to lift product from the refinery by the NNPCL.

He further argued that allowing independent marketers alongside the NNPCL to lift from the Dangote refinery will lead to competition, availability of product hence reducing the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the country.

The lawmaker who commended parent group Dangote Refinery for the commencement of petroleum refining noted that if the prevailing monopoly is not nipped in the board the suffering of Nigerians caused by the scarcity of PMS will continue with disastrous consequences for the economy.
