After their successful outing in the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba Delta State tagged Asaba 2024.  Team Bayelsa return home to X-ray the performance of the various associations and areas of improvement as the National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State approaches. NPFL: Bosso, Biriduba Confident of Kwara United Victory

The Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa will come alive on Sunday when Bayelsa United host Kwara United, a matchday four encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL. Bayelsa United will go into the game with high hopes having played two games with a game at hand against Enugu Rangers next week Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. Both Bayelsa United and Kwara United share similar fortunes. The "Prosperity Boys" have recorded one point from two games while the "Afonja Warriors" have one point from three games on the log. Bayelsa United and Kwara United have met four times in recent times in the league with the Prosperity Boys having the edge, winning two, one defeat and a draw. Bayelsa State Government takes grassroots sports development mission to schools

In a bid to educate and sensitize students on the benefits and importance of sports, the Bayelsa State Government through the ministry of Sports Development in conjunction with the Bayelsa State Sports Council has taken her first mission sail to the IJaw National Academy, Kaiama. The Bayelsa State Sports ministry initiated a project called 'The pilot Bayelsa Future Aces Project' (BFAP), which was borne out of the A.S.S.U.R.E.D agenda of the Prosperity Government.   Speaking during the sensitisation campaign, the honourable commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Dr Daniel Igali said the initiative is a part of the revolution to breed out young talents,  beginning with school sports. Bayelsa United chairman, Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe alongside other board members on Monday met with the commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali at his office in Yenagoa. By Hananeel Jackson            Team Bayelsa produced a brilliant performance in chess in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State tagged Asaba 2024 by outperforming twenty eight other states in the country.  Bayelsa chess team showed no mercy to opponents amassing a total of 5 gold, one silver and bronze the highest won by any sports closely followed by swimming which won four gold, silver and a bronze medal. The delightful kids won gold in the boys blitz event from Goodness Ekunke, Treasure Ebiakpo also claimed gold in the girls blitz event while Treasure Ebiakpo settled for silver in the girls individual. Following the statement of Sports minister John Owan Enoh to revisit the age limit of the National Youth Games, the Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council Sir Braveman Wodi has expressed his opinion on the matter of u17 age bracket.  Speaking to journalists on Monday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Sir Braveman Wodi said the review of the age limit of the National Youth Games should be carried out with the integration of necessary stakeholders who will contribute efficiently.  Braveman noted that due to age cheat, it is imperative to have Youth Games that will meet the objectives of grassroots development for young athletes.  He added that the nation should focus on hosting a tournament that graduates  athletes from the junior cadet to the senior level while providing avenue for young ones to compete fairly.  "For me the age-cheat is always there and it us quite easy to cheat between the u17, but I will propose because there is a missin...

By Francis Joseph   It was another Frustrating day for Bayelsa United as they were held at home  to a 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa in Matchday two of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, 15th September 2024. The Prosperity Boys came into the game after a 3-0 defeat at away at Sunshine Stars as they look to bounce back but it was the visitor's Kano Pillars who dominated early possession and created chances as they took the game to Bayelsa United. Kano Pillars quick start eventually paid of in the 40th minutes after Auwal Malam picked up a cross outside the 18-yard box and hit a shot which beat Clinton Andy in goal for Bayelsa United as the visitors went into the break with a 1-0 lead. NYG 2024: Team Bayelsa Continues Impressive Performance in Asaba.

Team Bayelsa on Saturday continued their impressive performance in the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State tagged Asaba 2024. The National Youth Games which entered day three saw Bayelsa winning three medals, one gold, two silver and a bronze medal. Atinuke Alfred Olajide gave Bayelsa gold in the 50 metres Breaststroke in swimming while Ayibamieye Kachisiku secured two silver for the oil rich state in the 50 metres freestyle. Bayelsa state five male doubles have also progressed to the final of the National Youth Games. The Bayelsa team beat Borno State 2-1 to qualify for the final.  Abraham Saviour and Plato George claimed bronze in para table tennis doubles to increase Bayelsa medal tally. In Basketball Bayelsa male team defeated Kwara State 5-3 to qualify for the final and will now face Cross Rivers State on Monday in the battle of supremacy. The Honourable commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Dr Daniel Igali has conveyed his support to Bayelsa athletes ahead of the Youth Games which is slated 9th through 21st September 2024 in Asaba, Delta State.  Daniel Igali in a solidarity message said the Youth Games offer the state opportunity to discover new set of champions that will represent the State and Nigeria at large in international sporting events. The Bayelsa State honourable commissioner for Sports Development, Champion Daniel Igali, has called on the state owned club Bayelsa United to hit the ground running as the new NPFL gets underway this weekend. The world and Olympic champion hinged the charge on the past two seasons where Bayelsa United have battled for survival. _By Yakubu Uzoma_ The Samkay Athletics Club on Monday 2nd September, 2024 organized a meet where Secondary School Students in Bayelsa State participated in various events such as the 100 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, and Long Jump for both boys and girls. The competitions were highly competitive in all categories. Gagede Tamaramiebi emerged as the fastest girl in the 100 meters race, while Clement Lucky won the Boys 100 meters race.  Teibowei Samson had the best time in the Boys 400 meters, and Vivian Obi came first in the Girls 400 meters. Martha Jacob won the Girls 800 meters, and Samson Teibowei won the Boys 800 meters. The Bayelsa Athletics Association also selected a team for the National Youth Games.
