PROSPERITY CUP SEASON6: CENTRAL ORGANISING COMMITTEE SUSPENDS THREE COACHES; CAUTIONS ONE COACH, TEAM AGAINST FURTHER MISCONDUCT.
The Central Organising Committee of the Prosperity Cup, Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament, has taken disciplinary action against four coaches and one team that participated in this year's tournament due to various acts.
Sequel to the foregoing, the Central Organizing Committee of the recently concluded Prosperity Cup 2024, in its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of discipline among players and coaches before, during, and after the competition, has arrived at the following resolutions;
After careful review and consideration, the COC has issued a one year letter of suspension to; COACH INEMO KOFFI (GOLDEN SUN SPORTS CLUB) : "For orchestrating a deliberate and vitriolic assault on the competition's reputation by
mobilizing his team and supporters to condemn the committee and its members through
carrying
placards and violent protests at the Samson SiaSia Stadium in an attempt to disrupt a scheduled match. These actions, capable of inciting violence, were mitigated only by the intervention of security personnel on the ground
COACH FEKETE AGOLI (REX) (GBARAIN FC); For - " Your threats and attempts to disrupt a scheduled match that was being played, which is entirely unacceptable by the committee. These actions, capable of inciting violence, was mitigated only by the intervention of security personnel on the ground."
The COC has also suspended MR. EBI AMULA (AGBERE FC) for 2 years for: " Making threats and publishing
defamatory statements on social media platforms, aimed at discrediting the organizers and the competition.
This behavior has become a recurring pattern, and the COC strongly condemns this unacceptable conduct, which has been consistent over the
past three editions of the Governor's/Prosperity Cup."
Meanwhile, UCHE ABULE (BMU FC) has been warned and placed on One Year probation for: " Importing a team of footballers from outside the state, undermining the tournament's core
objective of developing indigenous talents. The COC strongly disapproves of this conduct, as the Prosperity Cup is not a tournament
where winning is the sole objective, but rather a platform for fostering talent identification and development." Mr Uche would have faced more severe sanctions if not for the lack of appropriate articles in the rules and regulations guiding the tournament. The rules and regulations would be reviewed before the next tournament.
GOLDEN SUNS SPORTS CLUB is also given a warning letter for: "Encouraging your players to engage in unruly behavior at the sports complex, uttering threats and chanting violent songs, with the intention of disrupting the subsequent match and bringing the organizers and competition into disrepute."
The sanctions would have been more severe, especially to Golden Suns Sports Club, if not for the COC's commitment to promoting football development, especially female football across the state. However, this incident warrants a final warning. Any future instances of indiscipline or disordely conduct will attract severe sanctions, including banning your team from competitions organized by the COC.
The Prosperity Cup is committed to maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship, fair play, and discipline and will not tolerate any behavior that undermines the integrity of the tournament, the letters stated.
The affected coaches and team have been notified and are expected to comply with the disciplinary actions. Further violations may result in more severe penalties, including expulsion from the tournament.
The COC also recognizes the challenges and inadequacies of the tournament secretarait and the rules and regulations guiding the tournament and promises to overhaul the operations before the commencement of the next tournament.
"We appreciate the cooperation and support of all players, coaches, fans, teams, and indeed all stakeholders in maintaining a positive and respectful tournament environment.". The statement concluded.
