Governor Douye Diri's 5th Scouting Program to Hold in June
***Organizers Unveil Scouting Coordinators, Appreciate Gov Diri's Unparallel Passion for Sports***
The organizers of Nigeria's biggest grassroots showpiece, the Bayelsa State Governor's Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup have concluded plans for the 5th Governor Douye Diri scouting exercise.
Director General of the tournament, Mr. Ono Akpe gave the hint at the Samson Siasia stadium while unveiling the scouting coordinators, Mr Kelvin Etemike and Mr Peter Nieketie.
According to him, the 5th governor Douye Diri scouting program would come up on the 30th of June with over ten foreign scouts across the world to be in attendance.
He explained that the essence of the foreign scouting exercise was to give young Bayelsans a platform that would earn them a living and to consolidate on governor Douye Diri's unparalleled investment in sports development.
Mr. Akpe appreciated the governor, Senator Douye Diri, his Deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the commissioner for Sports Development, Chief Daniel Igali for the immense support given to the tournament, describing the governor's passion for sports as unprecedented.
Tournament Director, Mr Perela Aboroson noted that the target of the organizers of the tournament was to see Bayelsans in the various national teams, pointing out that plans are underway to prepare the players ahead of the scouting exercise from the 30th to 1st July, 2024.
Addressing journalists, UEFA B licensed coach and ex-international, Mr.Peter Nieketie said lack of proper mentorship is a major problem at the grassroots level, that the only way to bring out the best out of players was to have a developmental plan and steady progression of players from one stage to the other.
He opined that he is pleased with the stride made by the organizers of the prosperity cup towards giving the youths a positive lifestyle that is capable of making them self-reliant through football as a career, saying that the future of the youths is bright with the prosperity cup.
The former international expressed worries over the continuous absence of Ijaw players in the various national teams in the country, maintaining that the only medicine to bring back the loss glory was players from Ijaw extraction been scattered in all national teams through grassroots development.
Also, General Manager, Ajuwa Football Academy of Lagos and representative of OPS and OPT of Finland, Mr Kelvin Etemike pointed out that there was need to invest in the grassroots development, stating that the region has lost its pride of place in the national team, assuring that the prosperity cup has come to restore those glory days.
Mr. Etemike commended the Bayelsa State government and the organizers of the tournament for sustaining the competition as well as injecting new innovation to the tournament describing the tournament growth as laudable.
A renowned grassroots coach in Nigeria, Ada Gwegwe added that the organizers of the Bayelsa State Kids Cup are working hand in glove with the prosperity cup to have the tournament run simultaneously to consolidate on the objectives of the grassroots development.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of prosperity cup season six branded jerseys to the scouts and the signing of contract agreement between the Prosperity Cup COC and Tristone Agency.
