All Set For 4th Edition Of Micheal And Felicia Memorial National Table Tennis Championship.
Athletes Primed To Compete For Honours As Fourth Edition Of Michael And Felicia Alabi Memorial National Table Tennis Championship Serves-off.
The air is thick with expectations and tinged with excitement as table tennis athletes across several cadres from twenty-eight(28) states of the federation have converged on Otan-Aiyegbaju in Osun State for the fourth edition of the Michael And Felicia Alabi Memorial National Table Tennis Championship which will commence on Monday, 22nd April, 2024.
The recently upgraded Championship by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation is slated to hold from 22nd April to 26th April, with over 500 athletes jostling for honours across the events of men singles, women singles, women doubles and mixed doubles. Also are U-15 singles boys and girls, Para class1-5(men and women), Para class 6-10(men and women), deaf(boys and girls) and veteran(men singles).
The championship has been growing in leaps and bounds since its inaugural edition and has gained fantastic reputation as an elite table tennis tournament in Nigeria for talent discovery.
Participating athletes have expressed their excitement and marvel at the state of facilities on offer at the ultra-modern table tennis hall in Otan-Aiyegbaju and are waxing lyrical in praise of Mr Ayo Alabi—the sponsor, facilitator and Chairman of Osun State Table Tennis Association, who has put in place such a magnificent edifice. They have also expressed their satisfaction at the level of organization on display so far.
It would be noted that, this annual championship is organized by the Osun State Table Tennis Association(OSTTA) with technical support from NTTF and sponsored by the Michael & Felicia Alabi Memorial Foundation as well as Canada-based Jodal Healthcare.
It has as part of its core purpose the cardinal objective of talent discovery, nurturing and honing with participation provision for athletes across the spectrum.
By onboarding veteran athletes participation as well, it avails a platform for veteran athletes to once again competitively connect to table-tennis and evoke nostalgic feelings of their prime days of active participation in the sport. Last year winner of the veteran category, Saka Suraj echoes this sentiment.
Billed to attend the opening ceremony of this championship which will be held on Monday, 22nd April, 2024 are the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke; top officials of the NTTF; table tennis buffs; some other top government functioneries etc
