2-Day SamKay Athletics Academy Clinic Ends in Yenagoa

A two day athletics clinic organised by the SamKay Athletics Academy in partnership with the Bayelsa State Athletics Association has come to a fitting climax.

The clinic had over 200 young and aspiring athletes within the age bracket of 5 and 20 years honing their skills in different track and field events.

The cynosure of all eyes was Moses Amalala who won  a triple by clinching gold in the 100m, 200m and 400m in the Under 20 category. Amalala who posted 11.22 secs in the 100 metres for boys was obviously thrilled by his outstanding performance, signifying the birth of a prospective king of the sprints in the future.
In the girls Under-15 category, Ayiba-ebimoboere Christopher was the star of the show winning the double sprints: the 100m and 200m races.

Ayiba-ebimoboere who won the 100m in a time of 12.08 secs though excited vowed to improve on her performance in the future.

In the Under 15 boys, Itu Tokoni won both 100m and 200metres. 

The Long Jump event for Under 20 boys saw Nathan Miekioniso leaping to a distance of 5.91 metres to win the only field event competed for at the clinic.
Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports, Mrs. Grace Alagoa - Aigbiniode who graced the closing day of the event said she was excited at the turn out and improvements recorded in the performance of the young athletes.

While Commending the SamKay Athletics Academy, the Bayelsa State Athletics Association and the State Sports Council for organizing the clinic, she reiterated the call to corporate bodies and organized private sector to support government's efforts and contribute to the development of the youth and the sports sector.

Mrs. Grace Alagoa - Aigbiniode urged participating young athletes to remain focused and shun any involvement in the use of illicit drugs, appealing to parents to support their children emotionally and financially to enable them pursue a career in Athletics.

A visibly elated Founder and Chief Executive of the SamKay Athletics Academy, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe expressed satisfaction over the level of enthusiasm and discipline exhibited by the aspiring athletes who turned out in large numbers to begin their journey into track and field events.

Dr. Oredipe gave an assurance that the SamKay Athletics Academy would leave nothing to chance in its quest to revolutionizing track and field by offering a platform for young people to become world beaters and champions in different events.

The two day athletics clinic featured orientation of the young athletes on the rudiments and prospects of athletics, technical session and competition in various events such as 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, long jump for boys and girls categories.
