Nigeria Wrestling federation Set For Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classic

The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has expressed readiness ahead of  the 2nd Governor Diri National Wrestling Classics as over 800 Wrestlers across the country from different states and clubs compete for honours.  The National Classics which will hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, from August 4th to 10th, 2023, will serve as qualifiers for the forthcoming Pre-Olympic World championships in Serbia. Speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa,  the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation Champion Daniel Igali said that Nigerians should expect Wrestling at its best in the National Classics. Crusaders FC Wins N5m Star Prize President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has praised the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, for his “outstanding contributions” to the growth of grassroots football in Nigeria.  The NFF boss urged other Nigerian leaders to emulate the Bayelsa governor in developing football and other sports in general. The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, in a statement on Monday, quoted Gusau as stating this when he led a delegation of the federation on a courtesy visit shortly after witnessing the finals of the Bayelsa Governor’s Prosperity Cup competition held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, on Sunday. Golden Sun Sports Club and Crystal Stars FC have qualified for the final of the women's maiden edition of the Bayelsa State Governor's Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup. Golden Sun Sports Club humbled Niger Delta University NDU Queens FC 6-1 to reach the final of the women's Prosperity Cup. Goals from Rowland Victory, a brace from Dumber Nana, Ogele Joy, ThankGod Brake and Ogwu Young Glory as well as consolation from Asigo Gloria put the Yenagoa side into the final. ...As Competition Gets Underway This Thursday Four teams will take part in the inaugural edition of the women's version of the Bayelsa State Governor's Football Tournament. The four registered women's teams are Peremo Soccer Academy, Niger Delta University, NDU Queens, Golden Sun Sports Club and Crystal Stars FC. The draws for the women version of the "Prosperity Cup" were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa. Action begins on Thursday, July 27 with Semi Games. In the fixtures, Peremo Soccer Academy will battle Crystal Stars FC by 1pm on Thursday as Niger Delta University, NDU Queens slug it out with Golden Sun Sports Club by 3pm also on Thursday. Bayelsa State commissioner for Youths and Sports Development Chief Daniel says he is optimistic that Nigeria's biggest grassroots tournament christened the Prosperity Cup will soon become a breeding ground for future generation of football stars in the country. Chief Igali in an interview said that the tournament has lived up to its billing, as the games played in the competition have exposed some young raw talents in the state.
