Prize Money Increased to N11 Million Alambo Datonye Fred The fifth edition of the Bayelsa Governor’s Cup will feature final matches between two teams in each of the eight local government areas and a women’s tournament in its inaugural competition. Director General of the event, Mr. Ono Akpe who made this known during a visit by the Media and Publicity Sub Committee to the management of Radio Nigeria’s Creek FM at its broadcast house in Yenagoa said the innovations were initiated to make the competition more exciting and competitive. In a remark, General Manager of Creek FM, Yenagoa, Mr. Udosen Sunday pledged the continuous support of the station through the provision of necessary publicity. Akpe The 5th edition of Nigeria's  largest and most prestigious  grassroots football tournament, Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament known as the Prosperity Cup is set to kick off.  The tournament organized by Bayelsa State Government and managed by Abuja based company Red Sapphire is held in support of the sports-loving Governor, Senator Douye Diri’s efforts to positively engage youths of the Niger Delta through sports. Bayelsa United Defender Hopeful for Super Six Place.

Bayelsa United defender Yinusa Sheriff says he is happy to be part of the Aiteo champions Nigeria Premier Football League campaign this season. Sheriff joined the Prosperity Boys from Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Fc of Malawi in mid season to strengthen the Yenagoa based defense line. Sheriff in an interview said he is glad for the club's history this season from Mukuru Wanderers Fc, saying that his target is to help the former league champions remain in the NPFL. He explained that the addition of new players into the squad has given the team a different direction in the league, stressing that the run of form in the second round is as a result of the smooth working relationship and understanding amongst players. Dr Igali gave the hint at the closing ceremony of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation National team trials at the dynamite theatre of wrestling in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital. He said he was elated with the level of competition he witnessed in the two day event, expressing optimism that Nigerian wrestlers would distinguish themselves at the championship. The second round of the season has not start very well for the Prosperity Boys having lost against Enugu Rangers in Awka and played out a draw against Dakka FC in Uyo. With no win so far in the second round of the season, Bayelsa United have only recorded one win all season and are currently placed in 8th position with just a gove difference above the relegation zone. Douye Diri on Friday at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa declared close the 2023 Bayelsa State Sport Festival tagged Access Bank Prosperity Unity Games after six days of Competitiveness in fourteen different sport from the eight local government in the state. By Hananeel Jackson      Yenagoa Local Government Area have emerged champions of the inaugural Bayelsa State Sports Festival tagged "Access Bank Prosperity Unity Games" after six days of intense contest among the eight LGA'S in Bayelsa. Yenagoa LGA topped the medals table with 74 medals comprising 34 gold, 22 silver, 18 bronze, Kolokuma/Opokuma finished second amassing 92 medals, 30 gold, 29 silver, 33 bronze, Nembe LGA came third with 81 medals, 25 gold, 25 silver, 31 bronze. Southern Ijaw came fourth despite winning gold in the women's football event with 78 medals,, 22 gold, 29 silver, 27 bronze, while Ekeremor garnered 66 medals, 21 gold, 21 gold, 24 to finish 5th, Brass LGA 63 medals, 17 gold, 15 silver, 31 bronze despite having won the canoeing event.
