Gov Diri to Close Maiden Bayelsa State Sports Festival

After nearly a week of action among the eight local government areas, the inaugural Bayelsa State Sports Festival will come to a fitting climax on Friday.
Governor Douye Diri is expected to lead a cast of dignitaries to declare the showpiece tagged ‘Access Bank Prosperity Unity Games’ close at the ceremony billed for the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa from 4pm.
According to the order of programme released by the organizers, athletes are expected to arrive at the venue from 1pm while top government officials are expected to be seated from 2pm.
Ijaw music crooner, Jah Wonder is among entertainers booked to thrill spectators at the event alongside ball juggler, Tonye Solomon, popularly known as ‘Deeboi’.
Highpoints of the closing ceremony are Final of the Football event, Final of sprint relay events, presentation of medals and overall winning prizes to the top three local government areas.
It will also feature raffle draws as the lucky spectators will be credited with free airtime.
Meanwhile, Kolokuma-Opokuma LGA are topping in the latest medals table as released by the Main Organising Committee as of Thursday afternoon. KOLGA lead with a total of 52 medals comprising 17 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze, Southern Ijaw are second with a total of 36 medals : 10 gold, 9 silver and 17 bronze while Yenagoa are third with 26 medals made up of 10 gold, 9 silver, 7 bronze medals.
