Premier League: Match Week six Preview and Prediction
By Egeonu Ifeanyichukwu
The Merseyside derby kicks off Week six of the fledgling EPL season.
Everton vs Liverpool
Everton are still looking for their first win of the season and I don't see them getting it here. They've brought back Idrissa Gueye from PSG and Neal Maupay should be available following his transfer from Brighton.
Liverpool won comfortably at Goodison last season, but a lot has changed since then. I don't think it will be an easy game for them but I expect them to get better of the Toffees.
Liverpool need to find some consistency which they are working hard to get at the minute, but they will have too much quality, even though Everton will be super combative at home.
My prediction: 1-2
Brentford vs Leeds
Leeds beat Brentford at the end of last season as they staved off relegation to the championship.
Brentford have started the season well and they came back against Crystal Palace to earn a draw late into the match at Selhurst Park.
The Bees will be absolutely fine as regards their Premier League status because they are well-drilled and spirited, and they will cause Leeds one or two problems.
Leeds have got some good early signings in and they've had a decent start. Although one could question their squad depth a bit having let Daniel James move to Fulham on deadline day. I can see this one ending in a stalemate.
My prediction: 1-1
Chelsea vs West Ham
This looks like a tasty London derby in prospect.
Chelsea may have signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, but things doesn't seem right at the club. Thomas Tuchel seem ruffled at the moment and gave a scathing post-match presser after the defeat at Southampton in mid-week, and he could come under pressure if they don't win this game.
West Ham got their season up and running after taking four points from their last two games, and I expect them to pick up at least a point from this one.
My prediction: 1-1
Newcastle vs Crystal Palace
Newcastle really took the game to Liverpool, and Alexander Isak took his chance very well and got his goal.
Newcastle are at home. They beat Nottingham Forest in their opening home game and went toe-to-toe with Manchester City and I think they will have a little too much for Palace.
Wilfried Zaha scored a brilliant goal against Brentford in mid-week and they do have some really exciting players but I see Newcastle edging this one.
My prediction: 2-1
Nottingham Forest vs Bournemouth
Forest have signed more than 20 players, which is worthy of note. It is about how they gel against a Bournemouth team who fought hard against Wolves. Bournemouth have a problem with scoring goals and I think Forest at home at the City Ground will edge this one.
My prediction: 1-0
Tottenham vs Fulham
Tottenham, again, were good in spells during the midweek draw at West Ham and it hasn't really clicked yet for them, although they are unbeaten so far this season.
Fulham have made a surprising start to the season; they pushed Arsenal all the way recently. Spurs should win this one but it will be close. Fulham will score.
They are a confident side and Aleksandr Mitrovic is an old-fashioned center-forward who bullies defenders.
Spurs' back three will have to earn their money on Saturday.
My prediction: 2-1
Wolves vs Southampton
The pressure is piling on Bruno Lage and his team needs that first win. I expected them to beat Bournemouth but they didn't. They are a team riddled with a lot of good attacking talents, so it's surprising that they haven't registered a win yet. I don't see them going down but they need to get a win soon to get their season up and running.
Southampton will go toe-to-toe, as is Hasenhuttl's style of play. I am backing Wolves to have the quality up front to make the difference and break their duck.
My prediction: 2-1
Aston Villa vs Manchester City
Arsenal did take Villa apart in midweek, although the 2-1 scoreline could be flattering.
For the Cityzens, it will be about balancing the Champions League with the Premier League now so it will be interesting to see what they do with this one.
Erling Haaland could be given a rest with the game at Sevilla next week in mind but he doesn't need long on the pitch to score.
I worry for Steven Gerrard's men. The Gunners exploited their set-up, and if City are at their best offensively then it could be a bad outing for them.
I don't think anyone expects them to beat City, but it does pile up the pressure on the manager, Steven Gerrard.
My prediction: 1-3
Brighton vs Leicester
Brendan Rodgers is not a happy man and does not seem to be on the same page with Leicester's owner. Leicester had a lackluster performance against Manchester United and they need that first win to kick-start their season. Sadly, I don't think this is the game were that happens.
Brighton will want to bounce back and I have a furtive feeling they will pile more pressure on Rodgers. It will be a close encounter but I think the Seagulls will win.
My prediction: 2-1
Manchester United vs Arsenal
The Red Devil's have won their last three games and Arsenal have started the season by winning five on the spin.
Martin Ødegaard went off injured against Villa and he is a big player for them. Arsenal were far too good for Villa and if anything is lacking, they were not quite ruthless enough, but Gabriel Jesus is a handful for defenders. He hassles and presses and had great quality.
It will be a close affair. Erik ten Hag seems to have done quiet an Ok job in such a short space of time at Manchester United. I think the spoils will be shared in this one.
My prediction: 2-2
