Bayelsa to Represent South South in U:16 YSFON South South Finals.

Bayelsa State U-16 team have defeated her Rivers State counterpart 1-0 in the final of the Zonal U-16 Play-Off for the South-South. The encounter which was decided at the Samson Siasia stadium was witnessed by stakeholders and other football enthusiast with kids displaying talents as part of the catch them young initiative to prepare the lads for future engagement. Agie Gideon scored the only goal for the Bayelsa U:16 side from a long range effort to beat  Rivers State goalkeeper just at the halftime mark having dominated play. Despite the defeat Rivers will join Bayelsa State to represent South South in the national U:16 finals early next year in a yet to decided venue. ***Awards Trophy to 13 Year Old Ekunke for Emerging Overall Champion*** Bayelsa State Chess Association monthly tournament has been concluded in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The monthly tournament sponsored by the  Niger Delta University NDU was organized by the State Chess Association to prepare players for future competition with players from all over the state in attendance . Omorere Benjamin emerged champions in the opens with 6.5/7 points, Igolukumo Felix on second with 5.5/7, Ekunke Goodness finished third with 5/7 points having dominated the games earlier. 2024 Bayelsa SWAN Week to Hold December 7th – 13th

  The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Bayelsa State Chapter has put in place a series of activities to mark its 2024 Week from December 7th to 13th. A statement by the Chairman of the Planning and Organizing Committee, Mr. Loveday Herbert and Secretary, Tom Amaegbe says the programme of activities will include a 6 Kilometer Road Race, the Clinton Thompson Cup which is a football competition among Media organizations in Bayelsa State, Indoor Games, a Capacity Building Workshop/Training for members and a SWAN Award Night. Mayor Igbokwe Condemns Attack, Killing Of Soldiers, Appeals To The Military Not To Embark On Reprisal Against Umuokpara Community.

Mayor Lucky Igbokwe has appealed to the military not to go on reprisal attacks against innocent members of the community but to identify, arrest, and deal with only persons directly and remotely connected to the gruesome killings of military officers. Mayor Igbokwe, a United Nations Mayor of Peace in a statement he issued in Umuahia on Saturday strongly condemned the incident describing the killings as barbaric, heinous, and unimaginable, Igbokwe said no circumstances should have warranted such magnitude of wickedness against officials and personnel of a law enforcement agency. He appealed to the military to adopt the best globally accepted cause of action in dealing with the unfortunate development by avoiding the temptation to vent its anger on the innocent residents of the community.
