SamKay Athletics Academy to Organize 2-Day Clinic for Young Athletes

- - Event to Hold April 2 & 3 in Yenagoa  SamKay Athletics Academy is set to partner  the Bayelsa State Athletics Association to a 2-Day Athletics Clinic for young athletes within the ages of 6 and 20 years. The athletics programme is billed for the Main Bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Yenagoa between Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd of April, 2024 to expose young people to track and field events. The time is 9am to 12 Noon daily. The clinic will feature talks on rudiments of athletics, nutrition and benefits of sports to economic well-being. Parents of interested athletes are encouraged to allow their children and wards participate in the sessions under experienced coaches. School Principals and Games Masters are also expected to encourage  young talented athletes discovered during their various inter-house sports to participate. The organizers of Nigeria's biggest grassroots football tournament, the Bayelsa State Governor's Football Tournament, tagged the Prosperity Cup have confirmed that the prize tag for sale of the forms for Season 6 of the tournament remains unchanged. In a statement rolled out by the Director General of the tournament, Mr. Ono Akpe, the Central Organizing Committee (COC), has decided to maintain the status quo on the registration fee of N20,000, with new incentives to further boost the status of the tournament According to Akpe, the incentives include kitting the coaches' participating teams, goalkeepers' kits, and training bips for all the teams. This is inclusive of a set of jerseys and balls hitherto given to registered teams and nets usually provided for the selected pitches. COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT LEAD THE ONGOING UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA TORU-ORUA INTER DEPARTMENTAL GAMES COMPETITION

The ongoing Inter Departmental Games at the University of Africa Toru-Orua have so far been nothing short of exciting as talents have emerged from various departments and sports in the Institution as the  Computer Science has so far shown that they're the Department to beat in the ongoing competition. Hours after the competition kicked off Political Science Department defeated Theater Art Department in two sets 21-11 and 21-19 to emerge champions of the Badminton Competition. Computer Science won their first sports of the games after clinching the two categories of the Chess competition. And they also followed it up with a time limit win to claim the trophy in the Monopoly game against three other Departments in Agricultural Science Department, Mass Communication Department and Accounting Department. Nigerian Wrestlers Sweep Five Gold In Day-2 Of African Championships

The day-2 of the African Senior Wrestling Championships In Egypt got on a better note for Nigerian Wrestlers to add to the gold medal sweep in Day 1. Recall in Day-1 of the tournament Nigeria's female wrestlers clinched four gold medals as the likes of Blessing Oborududu,  Odunayo Adekuoroye led the gold acquisition.  African Games 3-time champion Mercy Genesis started the day two of Championships for team Nigeria with a dominant display over NTSA ASSOUGA of Cameroon in the 50kg to retain her African Championships title.  Adijat Idris 53kg continued the winning pathway by defeating Aya Eid Gomaa SOLIMAN  Egypt to secure gold medal. Olympic silver medalist and Commonwealth champion Blessing Oborodudu beat Osman Badran of egypt 12-2 superiority decision to win her 14th African crown. Returning to the competition after she had skipped last year's championships Odunayo ADEKUOROYE outclassed Chaimaa Aouissi of Egypt by pinfall to win her 8th African title and earned her 10000 points. A win that ensure that Adekuoroye tops the 57kg rankings. Christianah Ogunsanya capitalised on her remarkable performance at the African Games by defeating Chahrazed AYACHI of Tunisia 10-0 superiority in 53kg to win gold. UNIVERSITY OF AFRICA BEGINS INAUGURAL DEPARTMENTAL GAMES

The maiden edition of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua Inter-Departmental Games, will kick off today, Monday, the 18th of March, at the University premises. The games will see students across the various departments showcasing their personal sporting skills in the next couple of days, for the first time since the institution was established few years ago. Games lined up include Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton Scrabble, Chess,  Monopoly, and Table Tennis. A statement by the University of Africa, Acting Public Relations Officer, Mrs Aforka Faith, said the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Barclays Ayakoroma, will declare the games open at 2:30pm today. The maiden edition of the Schools Sports Foundation Osun Governor's Cup has entered the Semi-Final stage with four teams set for what analysts believe will be a fierce battle for slots in the final.  On Thursday, Anglican Grammar School, Ile-Ife mauled Ede Muslim Grammar School, with six unreplied goals. Afolabi Rasheed opened scoring in the third minute, Akinola Kehinde and Oyesunbola Iyanuoluwa scored a brace each, before Akinlabi Marvelous crowned it up , to take the goal tally to six against the Ede based School.  In the other Semifinal game on Thursday, Community Grammar School, Iperindo defeated Ansarudeen Grammar School by a lone goal.  On Friday, Lanreleke Sports Academy, became the third team to book a spot in the Semi-Finals after they impressively defeated Inisa Grammar School, by six goals to one.
