Wimbledon: ALIZÉ CORNET SNAPS IGA SWIATEK'S 37-MATCH WIN STREAK IN THIRD ROUND

                  Alize Cornect

For the second time in her career, the Frenchwoman defeated a world No. 1 on No. 1 Court in this very stage of the grass-court major.

In 2014, Alizé Cornet stunned world No. 1 Serena Williams in a third-round Wimbledon contest on No. 1 Court.

Eight years later, the Frenchwoman was back inside that very venue against a dominant WTA star who hadn’t lost since February, and once again stepped up in a major way.

On Saturday, Cornet snapped top-ranked Iga Swiatek’s unbeaten run of 37 matches with an impressive 6-4, 6-2 victory.

"I'm like good wine. In France, good wine always ages well," the Nice native said in reacting afterwards

Meeting the two-time Roland Garros champion for the first time, Cornet raced a 3-0 lead and maintained her initial break to close out the first set. Swiatek initially led the second set 2-0, before the 32-year-old regained control to oust the top seed with a roaring finish.

"Usually when I'm coming back, I have some kind of a plan and I know what to change. Here I didn't know what to change. I was confused," Swiatek shared during her press conference.
