PROSPERITY CUP: OPUME FC DISQUALIFIED
.......AS QUARTER FINALS GETS UNDERWAY
Opume FC have been disqualified from the ongoing Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament, for fielding in an ineligible player in it's game against Okoroma Tereke FC in the replayed Round of 16 fixture at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Thursday.
Although Opume FC won the game on the night, but for breaching article viii : 7 & 5 of the rules and regulations of the "Prosperity Cup", the team cease to continue the competition, and the match awarded to Okoroma Tereke FC.
The decision was taken during a joint committee meeting of the Local Organising Committee, Disciplinary Committee, and Appeals Committee, on Friday, which sat on a protest from Okoroma Tereke FC, against Opume FC, for fielding in one Natty Eriokpa.
Natty Eriokpa was alleged to have registered for a division three side, Koluama United, and featured for the team last season.
The committee, after investigation, found out that Opume was guilty, and wield the stick on the Ogbia based team, hence, Okoroma Tereke progresses to the quarter finals of the Prosperity Cup.
Meanwhile, after over three months of grassroots action which also witnessed the presence of foreign and local scouts, the Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament, is set to be completed with the third place and final matches slated for 19th of July, 2022.
The decision was reached after a meeting of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, on Friday.
A statement by the Director General of the Competition, Ono Akpe shortly after the meeting, says quarterfinal games will commence on Monday 11th, July.
According to the fixtures, Okoroma Tereke FC of Nembe will take on EGM FC of Yenagoa in the first game at the Samson Siasia Stadium, while Agbere FC of Sagbama face Anyama Ogbia FC of Ogbia, in the second encounter.
Peretorugbene United of Ekeremor will tackle Odioma FC of Brass, in the third quarter final game, while the last match will be between Southern Ijaw's Amassoma FC against Agbayama FC of Ekeremor.
Semi final ties have been slated for Friday, 15th July.
