Bayelsa State Government To Utilize Scrabble Clubs In Schools

The Government of Bayelsa state says it has made good its pledge to establish Scrabble Clubs in secondary schools across the state.

The government made the statement at the ongoing 2nd Edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship holding at the DSP Alamieseigha Banquet Hall, Yenagoa Bayelsa State.

Speaking through the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Douye Diri, Mr Daniel Alabrah, it pointed out that some schools already have the Scrabble clubs as the state government hopes to consolidate on the achievements by expanding the scheme to more schools.

Mr Daniel Alabrah who is also the chairman Bayelsa State Scrabble Association said though funding was a major challenge, the state government would continue to explore means to groom more students to take to the game 

He assured that the government was keen at developing Scrabble in the schools.

The second edition of the Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Championship got underway on Saturday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital with a total prize money of N5 Million up for grabs.

Over three hundred scrabble players from across the country are taking part in five categories in the two day competition.

Participants are competing in  the Masters, Intermediate, Veterans, the Opens and Students categories with the star prize of N500,000 going to the winner of the Masters event while the champion of the Intermediate will smile home with N300,000, as the Veterans winner will be richer by N250,000.
